Let the countdown commence...

Here we go. Fight day. Word is spreading about UFC doubling the number of fights to be aired live on Facebook. It's hard to imagine that a few short years ago UFC was relying on malt liquor sponsors and now have teamed up with a multi-billion dollar company to bring UFC to millions of potential new fans. Now factor in that UFC is putting on this fight for our service men and women and there is no doubt that this is a top tier if not the best entertainment company in the world, hell the UNIVERSE!

Tonight should be amazing. Lots on the line for several fighters. With a massive influx of new talent every fight for some of these guys has to be considered a fight to extend their career . Who succeeds and who will be working through the ranks for a comeback. Let the countdown commence!

As the weekend approaches

1. UFC Fight for the Troops is coming on quick. This is such a good thing. Kenny Florian backs out and we may see an even more entertaining main event without him. The UFC is in a win / win spot this weekend. We will be blogging and tweeing throughout the event so be sure to come back and check us out at www.twitter.com\bluegrassmma.

2. Matt Mitrione is on the the card Saturday. Will we see good things from him? I expect so.

3.Ryan Couture is booked for Strikeforce Challengers coming up on Showtime. Keep an eye out for this guy. Will he be following in the footsteps of Papa Couture? He's young and has all the tools at his disposal. One can't help to think he will always be in the mix just by carrying the family name.

4. Jose Aldo is booked for UFC 129 in Toronto. GSP must feel a little pressure to make a good show of his title defense against Jake Shields. Shields better bring the heat on this one because this writer doesn't feel he should be in this spot. My prediction Aldo will steal the show. At least get a bonus of some sort.

5. Last but not least. Kimbo Slice. C'mon man. Multiple outlets are reporting that he has signed a pro-wrestling contract in Japan. I can't let go of the hope that he would return and wow everyone in the UFC. I will always believe that if he got a different fight to start TUF we would have seen him in the contract fight and who knows. Make your paper while you can I guess.

Thanks for checking us out and don't forget to check out a killer blog who has their shit together a little better than us  www.mmabuffet.blogspot.com.

Its snowing here in Eastern Kentucky. The Wildcats aren't playing.  So why not hit us up on twitter or email us. Remember this; opinions are like elbows and sometimes you just need to put yours in someone's face.

Dump and Dave

Nick Diaz vs Georges St. Pierre

Dave In The Blog:   Nick Diaz wants to fight GSP? Interesting. Nick has been up to it again calling out GSP.
Nick Diaz: "People think GSP is better than me and it's BS"
Nick Diaz: "I want to fight Georges St. Pierre, but I think my partner [Jake Shields] is going to take him out"
I could see this being a good matchup, but I think Mr. Diaz is probably blowing smoke seeing how he isnt even in the UFC anymore and just trying to draw some attention to his self in talking about Mr. GSP. Which is all good. But any way you look at it, it would be a good matchup seeing how GSP would be able to say I have beat Nick Diaz. And as far as Jake Shields taking Rush out I hope he doesnt get winded in the first rd. like in his last match or GSP will punish him bad...Dave

Big Country Attorney at Law?

Dump here with a tidbit just reported by Yahoo. Roy "Big Country" Nelson is back after being put on hold by UFC for contract disputes. It seems Nelson was under contract with Roy Jones Jr's promotion while competing in the UFC. This clears the way for his return. I think I speak for alot of people when I say that his fight with Dos Santos firmed up his standing as a top heavyweight. Can he stand and bang with Brock and Cain? He stood toe to toe with JSD and took it. Just to confirm his jaw and his contract I am in favor of throwing him right back at a top level guy. Shane Carwin coming off of surgery would be a perfect bout. It would give the fans something to enjoy and put either fighter back in the mix for the belt. With just a small stable of heavyweights the UFC will need to keep promoting these guys and working those fights in to cards to help build the division.

Big Country is quoted as saying “Depending on how much money you have you can do lots of stuff with the legal system. Probably when I’m done with this I’ll probably become a lawyer just so I can sue people just so I can sue people,” For now I hope he is focusing on hitting people just so he can hit people.

Crazy MMA News

Dave in the Blog:  Strike Force CEO Scott Coker Live on MMA weekly Radio. Tune in it should be interesting. I am sure he will be talking and sharing news about the upcoming HeavyWeight Tourney.
Just In - Brian Stann says, "I can compete with Anderson Silva and I would knock GSP out." I need some feed back on this one MMA fans. Please comment on this one! Wow!
News on Fedor's camp - Emelianeko keeping things the same as usual. Why mess with perfection right? All the news I have for right now. Feel free to comment. Dave

Heavyweight debate

Dump here. There is a ton of buzz involving the heavyweight divisions in UFC and Strikeforce. I have to admit that being a heavyweight myself there is nothing more exciting than seeing these bruisers lace it up and put fist to mouth. However as exciting as they are I feel both promotions are coming up short.

The UFC just announced Brock Lesnar and Junior Dos Santos will be coaching the upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter. Ratings no doubt will be through the roof. As a student of the industry I have to ask myself if this will be worthwhile for the actual contestants. See this season is dedicated to the welterweight division and I am worried that the coaches are just not the best fit to coach this weight class. Personality will not be showcased this go around folks. It will be interesting to see if taking Brock out of the wilderness  will sharpen his sense of humor. No doubt the fight between them will be off the hook and get a monster number of ppv buys. I suspect the winner wants to be champ but wants nothing to do with Cain. I guess we will tune in to find out.

Strikeforce on the other hand is putting all its chips in the middle of table and going with a heavyweight tournament. WOW! This will be amazing and should help boost Strikeforce's ratings and street cred. My dilemma is this, how do you possibly follow this up. All your top guys will have fought each other. It may make for some decent re-matches and water cooler talks but when its all said and done what more will they have to offer. Its not like they can bank their future on Bret Rogers and the aging Fedor. This is a once of a lifetime kinda showing but what will be left when its over? Mayhem Miller? Cung Le? King Mo? Its hard to predict the future but I can't imagine that it is super bright when you're spent on the heavyweights and are left with the so-so rest of the field.

Why us...why now?

Well here we go again. Another blog, another promotion and a lot of talk. Opinions are like elbows but in this blog we feel everyone needs one across the face sometimes. Bluegrass MMA is not your average blog. We are centered in the middle of Kentucky. MMA is not what you would call a pressing issue here. We have horse racing, basketball and alot of stereotypes. Dave and Dump are here to talk the business of fighting. Pick your poison. UFC, Strikeforce, Bellator or even your local tough man contest, we dig it. For years we have talked amongst ourselves like school girls at a slumber party on how we think things should be, who should have won, who's the best and all that jazz. Now we want your input. We want to put out what we are thinking on and start a converstation with the masses.

This being our first post and our first venture into the world of blogging we just hope that we can start a base of readers, followers, friends or even foes.  Look for us on twitter coming soon. Our first
"real" post is coming soon so tell your friends, your co-workers, your cell mates or anyone that will listen about us. BLUEGRASS MMA....its in your face.
