Fan Spotlight - Jerron Yost

Bluegrass MMA is very thankful for our loyal followers and supporters. Honestly its a bit overwhelming at times to know that people read and enjoy what we do. Our focus is Kentucky MMA but our fans have extended beyond the borders of the Bluegrass. There are so many that we talk to and communicate with almost daily that we felt we should spotlight a few. Some are fellow bloggers, some are MMA companies and most are MMA fans. Since we don't have anything going on this weekend to cover in Kentucky we wanted to spotlight a young man who is a follower and fan of Bluegrass MMA. Jerron Yost is a 17 year old young man who is autistic. I'm not telling you that for you to give your sympathies, merely setting up that even though he is autistic you would not know it by communicating with him. He is a great follower of MMA and has a great blog where he shares his thoughts at http://cageinformer.wordpress.com/. He took some time to answer some questions so we can introduce him to those that may have not had the pleasure of knowing him.

Shock and Awe!

The guys over at the Absolute Action camp in the short time I have been following them keep stepping their game up and taking Kentucky MMA to the next level. Still a few months away we wanted to make a quick statement on how excited and thrilled we are not only as fans but as supporters of Absolute Action. The men and women working at that company have yet again raised the bar with Dr. Patel announcing just a few short minutes ago that a deal has been struck to hold an event at.... wait for it

Thats right. The home of the University of Kentucky Wildcats and host to major events nationally will be the spot June 4th for Absolute Action MMA. Bluegrass MMA will be there and already have taken calls about fans wanting to jump on Team Bluegrass MMA and help us support Dr. Patel, Billy Donovan and even Turtle himself.  More of this to come right here.

Absolute Action - Breaking News.

The word spreading through the internet is that Absolute Action MMA, a Northern Kentucky based MMA company, is about to unleash yet again some exciting news. A few weeks ago we reported the deal that Absolute Action inked with Wazoo Sports to broadcast live events. If you listen to Cage Passion Radio on the regular you know that Vice President of Operation Billy Donovan likes to spring things toward the end of the show. Last night he issued a challenge to bring AAMMA to an arena within the next 60 days. Will this announcement address the challenge? Will Absolute Action be in Rupp Arena? You will have to tune in to find out today at 6:30 P.M

We Are Searching...FOR YOU

We have a few weeks until we cover another show. Thats an eternity in the internet world. To help keep us relevant and to continue with our vision of bringing Kentucky fighters and companies into the spotlight we are on a hunt. Not deer or turkey like most of the Bluegrass gentleman, we are scoping out fighters. No worries though we aren't looking at putting you on our mantle, just our wall. We are looking for people that have time to talk to us, let us pick their brain and possibly take some pictures of. We have met some great owners and promoters but we have had little to no contact with actual fighters. We want to change that.

Contact us and tell us you want to talk. The goal is to spotlight you in a post. Feature you and your trainers, you and your family or just you doing what you do. Amateur of professional we don't care. The world needs to know about the guys working daily in local gyms preparing and looking to get better.

If this interests you and you aren't shy get up with us. Send us an email at bluegrassmma@gmail.com. Shoot us a message on http://www.facebook.com/bluegrassmma/ or just comment under this post. We want to get to know you before Dana White comes calling!

Gruesome MMA - The Rundown

Friday April, 8th 2011 Team Bluegrass MMA travelled to the mountains of eastern Kentucky. Other than a brief stop on US 23 the trip down was great. Pikeville College Gymnasium played host to Gruesome MMA III - The Homecoming. Brandon Newsome promoted a great show that was locked in by matchmaker Greg Maynard. This was a stacked fight card with a great Main Event along with some great amateur battles.

The night kicked off with a stellar performance of the National Anthem. Shortly after the last note was sang the first fight of the night set the pace. Abe Samples of Fight Junkies earned the Discount Auto Brokers Knockout of the Night by throwing big punches and ending it very quickly against James Brown.

For the most part all of the fighters came with a chip on their shoulder looking to embrace their short time in the spotlight. Hard work in the gym paid of for most while others realized what they needed to do to improve. Lots of big strikers and heavy hitters laced this card. Ryan Bryant looked excellent in his grudge match against Jarrad Newsome. They both had high expectactions and were poised to make a statement. Bryant got the better end of this brawl, ending the bout in the first round with a TKO victory. Brandon Newsome declared Bryant the Dr. Jason Long Fighter of the Night.

Weekend Wrap

The weekend is coming to a close. Where does the time go? The last few weeks have been a blur between the "real" job I hold down and the madness of trying to be an upstart website in the '011. We launched the Bluegrass MMA Live Blogtalk Radio show this week. We also got a chance once again to giveaway some seats to a local show. A great week for us and we hope you all enjoyed it.

The week ahead will allow me some time to revamp the website,. gather some more information on whats going on and really take a minute to step back. We have a ton of pics from both the AAMMA show and Gruesome. Both shows were outstanding but we will get into comparisons on down the road.

I am still working on the recap and waiting on some official results from "The Homecoming Show". If you have seen the video we made or checked out the pics on Facebook you can see that it was the real deal. Without giving you a complete rundown let me take a little time to describe to you what it was like Friday night in Pikeville.

The Pikeville College Gym was packed for the event. The cage looked excellent. The two jumbo screens were a good feature but honestly there wasn't a bad seat in the house. I don't have the exact attendance but the bleachers were near full, the VIP tables were hopping and the floor seats were near compacity. There was a different kind of feel to this event though. I've thought it over all weekend and have come to the conclusion that the local guys brought their supporters out in full force. As different local guys got their names called out it was a roar each time from different parts of the gym. It felt like a high school basketball game with different factions showing out for their team. That was very impressive. Brandon Newsome did a great job putting everything into place and Greg Maynard scripted a great card. The show was great.

Video - Gruesome MMA

Bluegrass MMA wants to give a shout out to all the guys and gals who helped make Friday night a success for Gruesome MMA. The show was amazing and the crowd was unreal. We are working on the full recap and scouring our notes to bring you results. A special thank you to Greg Maynard who went out of his way to help us help them. This organization is a true fighter first & fans always promotion.  They are still growing and this was only the third show but look for big things to come out of the mountains of Eastern Kentucky. Enjoy this video we prepared. Our photographer captured roughly 400 pics. Stay tuned ....
