I Just Wonder?

Dave in the Blog:
All right fight fans it is time to see if Strikeforce can pull off this heavyweight tourney. I haven’t seen a good old grand prix since the PRIDE days. I really am only interested in two of the fights though which is Andrei Arvloski and Fedor Emelianeko’s fights. The reason for this is they used to be two of my favorite fighters and I am interested in seeing if they still have any gas left in their tanks. I really don’t think Andrei has the chin to win this thing he has proven this ever since his lost to Fedor that his chin is not as iron like as it used to be. Fedor nearly took it off his face in there match and it is obvious that he can’t take a shot to the chin anymore at all just take a look at how many losses he has had since that match. But I am interested in seeing how he does because at one time he was the best heavyweight I had ever seen on his feet and the ground.  Fedor on the other hand is a whole different monster I believe that his last lost was a fluke and he will be back stronger and better than ever. At least good enough to compete against the competitors in Strikeforce that is. But you can bet that you never know what is going to happen in a Fedor fight I have seen him dropped on his head, put in arm bars, and even almost knocked out but he usually always finds a way to win which is what I think separates him from the other fighters in MMA history. Should be a good one Strikeforce has my attention hope it goes like their last event so we don’t have to worry about the judges calling the fights.

Battle of the Bigs....Chapter 1

Dump here breaking down Saturday night's Fedor vs Silva card. Here we go. As Saturday night inches closer we get to sit and debate another weekend of fights. Not only are we getting to see the first round of the Heavyweight Grand Prix, we get a night of only heavyweights. This card has the potential of being the quickest outing. Nothing about the last several Strikeforce cards has been disappointing. It seems every fight gets finished. That being said when you put us big guys in the spotlight be ready to stay glued to the fights. I don't think they will last long. So here is how I see this playing out:

  • Valentijn "Python" Overeem vs Ray "Sugarfoot"Sefo
Overeem is 28-23. 51 fights to his name. He has beaten Randy Couture but has lost to Gilbert Yvel. This guy has knockout power in his pinky but he is aging. He's not old, just aging. This is his first fight in Strikeforce and he gets a baby fighter. I say baby fighter, Sefo has 2 fights to his name at age 39. He's no Herschel Walker and this won't play well for him. Overeem wins this fast. KO in the first 2 minutes.

  • Chad "Grave Digger" Griggs vs Gianpiero Vilante
Do you remember Griggs? He is the guy who pumped the brakes on Bobby Lashley's MMA path to superstardom. HE's taking on another Strikeforce newcomer in VIllante. Villante's only loss came when he had his arm broke in a light heavyweight bout. This is hard but I say Villante wins. Probably 2nd round.

  • Lavar "Big" Johnson vs Shane Del Rosario
A couple Strikeforce Challengers pros mixing it up to move towards the top of the Heavyweight ladder. Shane is undefeated and young. Johnson has only  3 losses and 8 more fights to his name. Both guys are tough. I put my money on Shane Del Rosario knocking out Big Johnson in the 2nd round.

  • Andrei Arlovski vs Sergei Kharitonov
Arlovski comes into this fight dropping 3 of his last 4. We know he his tough but we also know he can be beaten. Sergei is a mixed bag. He's fought some top notch guys, but no wins against them. Jeff Monson beat him in the Dream Welterweight Grand Prix. My gut tells me The Pitbull comes out of his slump and sends the Russian packing.

******Strikeforce and M-1 Global present Fedor Emelianeko vs Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva******

I don't like this fight. Why? I don't like Fedor. I respect what he has done historically but come on. It's like being league MVP in the minor leagues. For all his work he will never in my book go down in the books as a top notch Heavyweight. He's good no doubt but he hasn't put in the work nor has he fought the guys that he should have to cement a legacy of greatness. After this is tournament, win or lose, my bet is you have seen the final act of "The Last Emperor" Oh yeah, he'll win this fight.

There you have it folks. I call them as I see them. I am sure Dave will have something to say about my predictions, he always does.  Check us out on Twitter Saturday night and back in the blog after the fights to break it down.

UFC 126 Recap

Well our predictions weren't spot on but we got most of the winners right. A brief recap while its still fresh.

Demetrious Johnson shows speed, agility and great takedown skills to put the "Kid" to rest. Yamamoto didn't have a chance tonight and Johnson looks great in his UFC debut. WEC well represented tonight.

Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone chokes the snot out of Paul Kelly. Kelly comes out and doesn't touch gloves, says he does but looking disrespectful from the get go. Cerrone does what he knows and puts on a very worthy Fight of the Night performance. A deep choke puts an end to this one in the second. Both fighters win the bonus.

Chad "Money" Mendes grinds out a not so exciting fight against Michihiro Omigawa. 3 rounds of failed takedowns by Mendes but cuts Omigawa and does what he has to do get his hand raised at the end of the night.

Miguel Angel Torres wins in a snooze fest against Antonio Banuelos. He looked far past his days of being champion. Torres worked his jab and really stayed a step ahead of Banuelos.

Jon "Bones" Jones submits Ryan "Darth" Bader via choke in the 2nd round. Bones dominated this fight from top to bottom and was clearly the Submission of the Night winner.  After the fight Joe Rogan announces that Bones will be facing Shogun Rua at UFC 128 with the Light Heavyweight title on the line. Bones thanks God and tells the MMA live crew that he will be back training Thursday.

Forrest Griffin defeats Rich Franklin via unanimous decision. Forrest takes this one fairly easy. His size was a big advantage in this one. Forrest wins, Rich looks to be moving back to Middleweight if he moves at all. He had nothing tonight.

Anderson Silva kicks the face off of Vitor Belfort in the first round to remain the undisputed Middleweight Champion.  As announced he has been champ since 2006. Nothing new here guys and not much to say. He put is foot into the cranium of Vitor and then landed a couple of punches before he leaped onto the cage just as we have seen for years.

We will discuss more as the week goes on but there is no rest for the wicked. Strikeforce is a week away from another card and bet the farm Bluegrass MMA will be putting our 2 cents in.

Signing out for the night Big Dump Daddy says peace love and MMA.
