Are you not entertained??

Just over an hour. Thats all it took for Strikeforce to put on their main card last night in San Jose California. There was really no fluff to the broadcast. Fighters were announced, they walked in the ring and 1 of the 2 ended the fight ...quickly. The Bluegrass MMA crew was together watching the card last night just as soon as we got settled in, it was over. Thats what happens I guess when you air 4 fights and they go swiftly. Here is how I break them down.

Roger Gracie defeats Trevor Prangley: 1st round submission (Rear Naked Choke)
  • Prangley came out and I honestly thought if he could keep the fight standing he would have a chance. Even though Gracie didn't really impress me standing up and exchanging with Prangley but you can't deny that if you end up on the ground Gracie will make you pay dearly.  Prangley got caught in a rear naked choke and it was lights out. Gracie is still undefeated and look for him to get a more high profile fight in the months to come.
Herschel Walker defeats Scott Carson:  1st round TKO
  • Anyone suprised? A 48 year old man beast Walker comes out and pushes the pace on his way to to a quick victory. No chance for Carson in this one. He tried to throw a kick but all that did was enrage Walker and it was pretty much over from there. Walker was respectful to Strikeforce and Carson after the fight and look for him to once again fight a nobody in the future.
Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza defeats " Ruthless" Robbie Lawler: 3rd round submission (Rear Naked Choke)

  • I so wanted Lawler to win this fight and he showed signs that he might. Strong stand-up on the part of Lawler and at times it looked like he might be able to. Souza though weathered the storm and took advantage of his superior ground game to retain the belt.  Good fight overall but not real exciting.
Nick Diaz defeats Evangelista "Cyborg" Santos
  • Diaz has to get some credit leading up to this fight. He showed a much weaker fighter alot of respect. Diaz rolls into San Jose a 4-1 favorite and he didn't disappoint anyone. Cyborg comes out and gets to work on Nick's legs but it doesn't phase him. Cyborg lands some decent shots to the body and works the standup but Diaz doesn't as much as break a sweat. Diaz shows some striking ability himself and buys his time until Cyborg ends up on the ground and does what he does best. He makes quick work and catches Cyborg with an arm bar. The belt stays with the Ceasar Gracie trained fighter.
Not a fight at this whole event went to a decision.  Are you not entertained? Does this put Strikeforce closer to grabbing more of the headlines. Is Dana White concerned? As a fight fan you have to respect Scott Coker and Strikeforce for putting on fights we can enjoy. It seems that every weekend in the near future we will be sampling some fine MMA action. We will be here all week talking Silva vs Belfort and all things MMA.

  1. Dump I was ENTERTAINED. The UFC still has my soul but as of late Strikeforce has been pulling and tugging at it. I mean how could a person not be entertained when every fight ended in a ko or submission. Which is alot better than having to wonder who the judges are going to give the fight to. GO STRIKEFORCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
